Web Security at MODXpo 2015

MODXpo is back for a fourth year running, and this year will be held in Munich, Germany on November 21st and 22nd. The focus of this year’s event will be fine-tuning workflow skills, improving site performance and maintainability.

Zheta International’s Studio Manager Steven James McLean will be one of the speakers at MODXpo 2015 and will be giving his views on the approach an attacker takes to gain unauthorised access to websites and servers.

As the saying goes “Prevention is better than cure” – it’s better to prevent hackers from gaining access, than act once infected as it’s not just a case of removing the infected code, but also of identifying the source of entry and scan for any backdoors left by the hacker to maintain access.

And that is Steve’s proposed talk is about. However, his suggested approach is different and won’t be just tackling the usual topics about how to set up the correct permissions and the firewall rules. It takes a thief to catch a thief, so he will be exploring the mind frame of an attacker – how he will try to gain access to your website using the following steps:

Information Gathering
Scanning
Gaining Access
Maintaining Access
Covering Tracks
Social Engineering
